How is it performed?

The surgeon will insert a Lap Band along with other surgical instruments through the keyholes made in your stomach.

Slipped Lap Band
The band will be tightly placed over the top part of the stomach so it forms a small pouch that will serve as your actual stomach post surgery. Being much smaller in size than the original stomach, this new pouch will allow you to lose weight because it will fill up quickly when you eat, giving you a feeling of satiation after only a small portion.

Possible Risks

  • Slippage of band
  • Erosion and deflation of the band
  • Stomach obstruction
  • Dilation of the esophagus
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Reflux
  • Infection

The risks can be avoided, or at least minimized, by having your surgery performed by an experienced weight-loss surgeon, and also religiously following the post-op instructions.
