Question: What to do if you are really hungry between meals on the pre-op bariatric surgery diet?

Our US-Registered Dietitian Answers:

This 3-step guide helps you to deal with hunger between meals before your bariatric surgery.

Step 1

Most of the time when we feel hungry, we’re actually thirsty.

Try drinking water, sugar-free beverages, or decaf tea/coffee first.

Step 2

If you are still hungry, grab high fiber protein-rich snacks like

    • Raw veggies and hummus/dip
    • An apple with the skin on and 1 tbs. peanut butter
    • ½ cup low sugar applesauce and 1oz string cheese

Step 3

Try sugar-free gum, mints, or sugar-free hard candy if it is just an urge to snack.
